Shohei Ohtani Making ‘Productive’ Swing Progress, Hasn’t Faced Pitching Yet

Shohei Ohtani is progressing with his swing while on the injured list, although the Los Angeles Dodgers’ designated hitter has yet to face pitching or the Trajekt kachine.

“He’s not there yet,” manager Dave Roberts said Friday, “but everything I’ve heard, it’s been a really productive last three to four to five days. He’s in a good spot.”

Ohtani reunited with the team after their seven-game trip culminated in the Dodgers clinching the NL West title for the 13th time in 14 years with a win at Cincinnati on Thursday.

Ohtani went on the IL just before the road trip with lingering pain in his right biceps, left leg and neck. He stayed back in Los Angeles to receive treatment and hit off a tee for the first time Tuesday.

He’s eligible to return on Wednesday, during the Dodgers’ final home series against San Diego.

Roberts said he’d like Ohtani to get 10 to 12 at-bats against pitching before he returns to the lineup.

“It’s what he feels good with, what gets him ready,” Roberts said.

Dodgers Closer Edwin Diaz Returns After Missing Month With Neck

Los Angeles Dodgers closer Edwin Diaz came off the injured list Friday after missing a month with a neck injury.

The 32-year-old right-hander was available out of the bullpen for the series opener against San Francisco.

Díaz is 2-2 with an 11.85 ERA in 16 games with the Dodgers. He signed with the team as a free agent last offseason.

He made five rehab appearances during his second IL stint of the season. Díaz allowed six runs and had four strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.

Right-hander Landon Knack was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City, a day after throwing four scoreless innings in a victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

Atlanta Braves Clinch 8th Playoff Berth In 9 Years With

The Atlanta Braves held a subdued celebration when they clinched a playoff berth Friday night after missing out last season.

The first-place Braves beat the Houston Astros 6-2 to punch their ticket to the postseason for the eighth time in nine years. They secured at least a National League wild card and reduced their magic number to three for winning the NL East.

Afterward, there was no wild celebration, but rather a simple toast with bubbly before they began looking ahead.

“We’ve got our eyes on bigger and better things,” outfielder Michael Harris II said. “We’re trying to win the East. So got to go out there and do what we know we can do and hopefully we can celebrate big for that.”

First-year manager Walt Weiss echoed the sentiment shared by Harris.

“Everything you get in this league is earned,” Weiss said. “I’ve said it a few times this year, but great group, what they’ve overcome this year, and hopefully some bigger celebrations ahead.”

Harris, Ronald Acuna Jr. and Matt Olson each hit a two-run homer to help the Braves bounce back after dropping two of three games to the Chicago Cubs this week.

Atlanta is trying to hold off the Philadelphia Phillies for the NL East title and could wrap up the division crown as soon as Sunday. Atlanta’s win Friday night coupled with Philadelphia’s 6-3 loss to the Mets gave the Braves a five-game lead over the Phillies with eight to play.

Weiss was asked about helping the team back to the playoffs in his first season as manager after spending eight seasons as Brian Snitker’s bench coach.

“I always say it’s always about the players,” Weiss said. “They’re the ones out there performing. We’ve got a good staff. When you accomplish things, it’s an organizational effort. … It takes everybody and we’ve got a really good group.”

If the Braves take the division, it will be their seventh NL East championship in nine years.

Atlanta’s return to the playoffs comes after a disappointing 2025 season in which the team went 76-86 and finished fourth in the division, snapping a streak of seven straight playoff appearances that included six consecutive NL East titles from 2018-23. That run was highlighted by beating the Astros to win the 2021 World Series.

Friday’s victory gave the Braves 90 wins, marking the fifth time in the last eight full seasons that they’ve reached the mark. The only teams with more 90-win seasons in that stretch are the Dodgers with eight and the Brewers and Yankees with six apiece.

Utah vs. Utah State Prediction, Odds, Picks for College Football

It’s another edition of The Battle of the Brothers. The Utah Utes will face the Utah State Aggies in this in-state showdown on Saturday in a Week 3 college football matchup on FOX.

Under new head coach Morgan Scalley, the Utes have opened the post-Kyle Whittingham era with two dominant victories. Last week, SEC opponent Arkansas came to Salt Lake City and left with a 43-10 loss.

Through two games, Utah is averaging 537.5 yards and 54.5 points, ranking second among Big 12 teams in both categories. Including last season’s Las Vegas Bowl, the Utes have outscored their opponents 153-46 across Scalley’s first three games as head coach. The former defensive coordinator appears to be picking up right where Whittingham left off.

Utah State, meanwhile, saw its upset bid against No. 19 Washington end with a game-sealing interception. Despite three interceptions from quarterback Grady Brosterhous, the Aggies held the Huskies to 16 points. Brosterhous also threw two touchdowns, including one late in the fourth quarter that pulled Utah State within two.

The Aggies must quickly move past that loss and prepare for a rivalry matchup against a dynamic Utah offense led by Devon Dampier. The Utes are 11-1 in the series since 2000 and have won eight consecutive meetings in Salt Lake City.

Let’s take a look at the odds for Utah vs. Utah State at FanDuel Sportsbook as of Sept. 19.

Utah State Aggies Utah Utes Utah State @ Utah Prediction, Pick

From FOX Sports Research:

This will be only the second meeting between these rivals since 2015. The teams last faced off in 2024, when Utah earned a 38-21 victory.

Rivalry games tend to be competitive and emotional, and Utah State should have no shortage of motivation after narrowly missing an upset of No. 19 Washington last week. Few things would mean more to the Aggies than upsetting their in-state rival on its home field.

The question is whether that motivation will be enough to slow down Utah’s high-scoring offense. The Utes appear capable of keeping pace with the Big 12’s best offenses, but rivalry games can be unpredictable. Utah State has already shown it can challenge a ranked opponent.

The Utes remain unbeaten under Scalley, but the Aggies cover the spread in this edition of the Battle of the Brothers.

Michigan vs. UTEP Prediction, Odds, Picks for College Football Week

The No. 19 Michigan Wolverines face the UTEP Miners on Saturday in a Week 3 college football matchup on Big Ten Network.

Michigan earned a spot back in the Top 25 after defeating No. 11 Oklahoma 17-10. Despite the controversy surrounding their Week 1 win, the Wolverines remained focused and held the Sooners to fewer than 300 total yards.

Michigan limited Oklahoma to three conversions on 13 third-down attempts and forced two turnovers.

The Wolverines still looked incomplete offensively as Bryce Underwood completed 9 of 17 passes for just 111 yards, but the sophomore quarterback led Michigan with 87 rushing yards and a touchdown.

UTEP also faced Oklahoma in Week 1, but the Miners suffered a much different result as the Sooners cruised to a 51-0 victory. UTEP responded by scoring 51 points of its own in Week 2, defeating Texas Southern 51-10 for its first win of the season.

Quarterback EJ Colson Jr. completed 14 of 21 passes for 239 yards and four touchdowns while adding another score on the ground.

Let’s take a look at the odds for No. 19 Michigan vs. UTEP at DraftKings Sportsbook as of Sept. 19.

UTEP Miners Michigan Wolverines UTEP @ Michigan Prediction, Pick

From FOX Sports Research:

Michigan’s offense has yet to show it can be explosive or score in bunches. Through two games, the Wolverines have scored just 30 points and four touchdowns, including the controversial Hail Mary against Western Michigan.

UTEP scored more points last week than Michigan has all season, while Miners quarterback EJ Colson Jr. has accounted for more touchdowns than the entire Wolverines offense.

Bryce Underwood is completing just 53% of his passes and has the fewest passing yards among Big Ten starting quarterbacks who have played at least two games. The former No. 1 overall recruit has accounted for three touchdowns, two of which have come on the ground.

Michigan held Oklahoma to 10 points one week after the Sooners scored 51 against UTEP. The Miners won’t replicate that production against the Wolverines’ defense, while Michigan’s offense has looked pedestrian through two weeks.

Take the under.

Colorado vs. Northwestern Prediction, Odds, Picks for College Football Week

The Northwestern Wildcats will face the Colorado Buffaloes on Saturday in a Week 3 college football matchup on FOX.

Northwestern has had two weeks to prepare for this matchup following its Week 2 bye. The Wildcats needed 17 fourth-quarter points to defeat FCS powerhouse South Dakota State in their opener. Northwestern gained nearly 500 yards but allowed 432 on defense.

Michigan State transfer quarterback Aidan Chiles completed 14 of 24 passes for 273 yards and a touchdown. He also scored on the ground late in the fourth quarter to help secure the victory.

Deion Sanders’ Buffaloes, meanwhile, showed how dangerous they can be through the air. Quarterback Julian Lewis threw for 336 yards in last week’s win over Weber State, the most by a Colorado quarterback since Shedeur Sanders recorded 438 in 2024.

The Buffaloes have now demonstrated that they can win on the ground and through the air. They’ll need another productive offensive performance to keep pace with a Northwestern attack coordinated by Chip Kelly.

Let’s take a look at the odds for Colorado vs. Northwestern at FanDuel Sportsbook as of Sept. 19.

Colorado Buffaloes Northwestern Wildcats Colorado @ Northwestern Prediction, Pick

From FOX Sports Research:

Northwestern offensive coordinator Chip Kelly is known for his fast-paced, high-scoring system, and quarterback Aidan Chiles already appears comfortable running it.

Defense could be the Wildcats’ biggest concern this season, though they have had two weeks to address the issues that surfaced against South Dakota State. The question is whether that will be enough time to prepare for a versatile Colorado team.

The Buffaloes controlled the line of scrimmage against Georgia Tech in Atlanta, rushing for 183 yards while holding the Yellow Jackets to just 51. They followed that performance with Julian Lewis throwing for a career-high 366 yards and four touchdowns, showing they can beat opponents on the ground or through the air.

Northwestern’s struggles against South Dakota State remain concerning. Colorado has looked strong on both sides of the ball and has already proven it can win in a difficult road environment. There is plenty of reason to believe the Buffaloes can improve to 3-0.

Take Colorado on the moneyline.

How to Watch Kent State vs

The Kent State Golden Flashes visit the No. 6 Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026 at 12 p.m. ET from Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. Both teams enter at 1-1, with Kent State coming off a loss at South Carolina and a win over Wofford, and Ohio State off a 56-3 win over Ball State and a 23-24 loss at Texas.

Ohio State’s passing game has carried the early load. Julian Sayin has thrown for 598 yards and four touchdowns with one interception, and Jeremiah Smith leads the Buckeyes with 315 receiving yards and three scores.

Kent State is still finding consistency through the air on the road. Dru DeShields has passed for 311 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, and the Golden Flashes managed just 79 receiving yards in their road opener at South Carolina.

The Buckeyes are 52.5-point favorites over the Golden Flashes at DraftKings, with a total of 59.5.

Below, we’ll give you all the details you need to know about how to watch this game.

How to Watch Kent State vs. Ohio State

  • When: Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. ET
  • Where: Ohio Stadium, Columbus, OH
  • TV: FOX
  • Stream: Watch 3 days free on FOX One

Players to Watch

Ohio State needs a cleaner finish after letting a fourth-quarter lead slip at Texas, and Sayin has thrown for 598 yards and four touchdowns through the first two games, including a 278-yard showing in that 24-23 loss. He has connected often with Jeremiah Smith, who has 315 receiving yards and three touchdowns on the season.

Ohio State is averaging 356 passing yards per game, fifth most nationally through two weeks, and enters this game ranked No. 6. Kent State’s defense allowed 57 points to South Carolina in its opener, setting up a difficult individual matchup for the Golden Flashes secondary against Sayin and Smith.

The Buckeyes’ most consistent offensive threat has been on the perimeter, where Smith leads Ohio State with 315 receiving yards and three touchdowns through two games, including an eight-catch, 164-yard, one-touchdown performance in the loss at Texas. That production has held up regardless of the final score.

A matchup against a Kent State defense that surrendered 57 points in its season opener gives Smith another chance to add to his early-season totals. The Buckeyes’ passing attack, which ranks fifth nationally at 356 yards per game, is expected to lean on Smith early and often.

Kent State needs a dual-threat answer on the road, and DeShields runs the offense with his legs as much as his arm, rushing for 101 yards and two touchdowns to go with 311 passing yards and one touchdown through two games. He helped the Golden Flashes bounce back from a 57-0 loss at South Carolina with a 36-15 win over Wofford in Week 2.

DeShields and Kent State travel to Ohio Stadium against a Buckeyes defense that has not allowed more than 24 points in a game this season. His dual-threat ability gives the Golden Flashes a way to extend drives and avoid the kind of one-sided game they experienced in South Carolina.

Sustaining drives against a deeper Big Ten roster starts with a reliable target, and Harris leads Kent State’s receiving corps with 93 yards and a touchdown through two games as DeShields’ top option. His role expanded in the 36-15 win over Wofford after Kent State’s offense was held without a point in the opener at South Carolina.

Facing an Ohio State defense on the road, Harris and the rest of Kent State’s receiving group will need to find room against a Buckeyes team ranked No. 6 nationally. Any early success for Harris would help Kent State stay competitive against a much deeper roster.

How to Watch Utah State vs

The Utah State Aggies visit the No. 17 Utah Utes on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026 at 3:30 p.m. ET from Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City. Utah State enters at 0-2 after losses to Idaho State (17-29) and Washington (14-16), while Utah is 2-0 following wins over Idaho (66-14) and Arkansas (43-10).

Utah’s offense has set the early standard. Devon Dampier has thrown for 437 yards and five touchdowns with one interception, and the Utes are averaging 54.5 points per game with a 135 passer rating that ranks 10th in FBS.

Utah State is still searching for consistency under center. Grady Brosterhous has passed for 263 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions, and the Aggies’ seven interceptions rank second nationally.

The Utes are 27.5-point favorites over the Aggies at DraftKings, with a total of 56.5 and a moneyline of -7692 for Utah and +1917 for Utah State.

Below, we’ll give you all the details you need to know about how to watch this game.

How to Watch Utah State vs. Utah

Players to Watch

No. 21 Utah opened 2-0 behind an efficient quarterback, and Dampier has thrown for 437 yards and five touchdowns, including a 261-yard passing performance in a 43-10 win over Arkansas. The dual-threat quarterback is back for a second season under new head coach Morgan Scalley as the Utes look to build on that start at home against Utah State.

In 2025, Dampier accounted for 3,325 total yards, including 835 rushing yards, with 24 touchdown passes against five interceptions while playing through a sports hernia. His ability to extend plays with his legs remains central to Utah’s offensive identity heading into this matchup.

Utah’s ground attack has a clear focal point early in Big 12 play, and Parker has rushed for 124 yards and three touchdowns through the first two games while also producing receiving touchdowns out of the backfield for 212 all-purpose yards. That dual role matters as the Utes sit at 2-0.

Parker rushed for 981 yards in 2025 and remains a workhorse for Utah entering the matchup with Utah State. His combination of interior power and receiving ability gives Utah’s offense a change of pace alongside Dampier’s dual-threat production.

Utah State needs production from both the pocket and the run game, and Brosterhous leads the Aggies in passing (263 yards, two touchdowns) and rushing (116 yards) through two games this season. The senior made his first career start in Week 2 against Washington, rushing for 81 yards and two touchdowns while throwing for 196 yards in a 16-14 loss.

Brosterhous is expected to start again after McCae Hillstead was sidelined by a forearm injury sustained in the Week 1 loss to Idaho State; Hillstead’s availability for the Utah game has not been confirmed. Brosterhous’ dual-threat ability gives the Aggies a different offensive look as they try to snap an 0-2 start.

Whoever is under center for the Aggies, the steady target has been Wood, who leads Utah State with 143 receiving yards and two touchdowns through two games this season. The 6-foot-2 receiver has become the most reliable option in the Utah State passing game.

Wood’s ability to create separation could be important against a Utah defense that enters off consecutive wins to open the season. With Utah State still sorting out its quarterback situation behind Brosterhous, Wood’s role as a reliable option on early downs and in the red zone makes him one to watch Saturday.

How to Watch Colorado vs

The Colorado Buffaloes visit the Northwestern Wildcats on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026 at 7:30 p.m. ET from Ryan Field in Evanston, Illinois. Colorado enters at 2-0 after wins at Georgia Tech (14-13) and over Weber State (52-21), while Northwestern is 1-0 following a 34-18 win over South Dakota State.

Colorado’s offense has been led by freshman quarterback Julian Lewis. He has thrown for 490 yards and five touchdowns without an interception through two games, and the Buffaloes also lead FBS with five sacks on third downs.

Northwestern is 1-0 behind Aidan Chiles. He has passed for 273 yards and one touchdown without an interception in the Wildcats’ opener, with Griffin Wilde adding 104 receiving yards.

The Wildcats are 3.5-point favorites over the Buffaloes at DraftKings, with a total of 48.5 and a moneyline of -182 for Northwestern and +147 for Colorado.

Below, we’ll give you all the details you need to know about how to watch this game.

How to Watch Colorado vs. Northwestern

  • When: Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 7:30 p.m. ET
  • Where: Ryan Field, Evanston, IL
  • TV: FOX
  • Stream: Watch 3 days free on FOX One

Players to Watch

Colorado’s offense revolves around freshman quarterback Julian Lewis, who has completed his first two collegiate starts with 490 passing yards, five touchdowns and zero interceptions. Lewis authored a late touchdown drive in the Buffaloes’ 14-13 season-opening win at Georgia Tech, then threw for 366 yards and four touchdowns in a 52-21 rout of Weber State the following week.

Northwestern will be tasked with slowing a quarterback who has yet to throw an interception through two games, a factor that could shape how much rhythm Colorado’s passing attack finds on Saturday. Lewis, who became the program’s eighth true freshman to start a game at quarterback since 1970, has quickly built chemistry with receiver DeAndre Moore Jr., who has drawn 16 targets already this season.

DeAndre Moore Jr. transferred to Colorado from Texas and has quickly become quarterback Julian Lewis’s top target. Through two games, the senior wide receiver has caught eight passes for 144 yards and a touchdown, including a 66-yard score on Colorado’s first offensive snap of its win over Weber State.

Moore worked his way back from a leg injury in spring practice and was expected to be ready for the season. He has drawn 16 targets in two games, a sign of how central he has become to the Buffaloes’ passing game early on. Against Northwestern’s secondary, his ability to threaten downfield could be one of the more interesting individual matchups of the night.

Northwestern turned to transfer quarterback Aidan Chiles, who arrived from Michigan State, to run new offensive coordinator Chip Kelly’s system. In his Wildcats debut, Chiles completed 14 of 24 passes for 273 yards with one passing touchdown and one rushing score in a 34-18 win over South Dakota State.

At Michigan State last season, Chiles passed for 1,392 yards with 10 touchdowns and three interceptions over eight appearances. He is looking to build on that production behind Kelly’s offense, and his dual-threat skill set, highlighted by a 14-yard rushing touchdown in his debut, gives Northwestern’s attack another dimension against Colorado on Saturday.

Griffin Wilde was Northwestern’s leading receiver in the season opener, catching three of four targets for 104 yards, including a 71-yard reception, in the Wildcats’ 34-18 win over South Dakota State.

Northwestern is counting on Wilde for a bigger role in 2026 after a productive 2025 season, and his big-play ability was on display immediately when he turned a short throw into a 71-yard gain. He and new starting quarterback Aidan Chiles are still building chemistry, but their season-opening connection suggests Wilde could see plenty of opportunities against Colorado.

How to Watch Northern Iowa vs

The Northern Iowa Panthers visit the No. 18 Iowa Hawkeyes on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2026 at 4 p.m. ET from Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City, Iowa. Northern Iowa enters at 1-1 after a 24-34 loss at Eastern Washington and a 56-14 win over Drake, while Iowa is 2-0 following wins over Northern Illinois (40-0) and Iowa State (16-13).

Iowa has leaned on balance through two games. Hank Brown has thrown for 320 yards and one touchdown without an interception, and Kamari Moulton has added 240 rushing yards and two scores as the Hawkeyes allow just 6.5 points per game.

Northern Iowa’s offense has been driven by Jaxon Dailey. He has passed for 529 yards, three touchdowns and one interception, and also leads the Panthers with three rushing touchdowns.

The Hawkeyes are 38.5-point favorites over the Panthers at DraftKings, with a total of 49.5.

Below, we’ll give you all the details you need to know about how to watch this game.

How to Watch Northern Iowa vs. Iowa

  • When: Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. ET
  • Where: Kinnick Stadium, Iowa City, IA
  • TV: FS1
  • Stream: Watch 3 days free on FOX One

Players to Watch

Brown, an Auburn transfer, has started both of Iowa’s games this season and heads into Saturday with the No. 18 Hawkeyes sitting at 2-0. He has completed 21 of 30 passes for 191 yards without an interception in his most recent start, a 16-13 win over Iowa State on Sept. 12 that Iowa closed out on a 42-yard Caden Buhr field goal with 15 seconds left. Brown also scored on a short rushing touchdown in that game, part of a season line that stands at 320 passing yards, one touchdown and 22 rushing yards on eight carries with a rushing score.

Northern Iowa, an FCS opponent, gives Brown a chance to build rhythm before Big Ten play resumes with trips to Michigan and Ohio State later in the schedule. His completion rate and decision making against the Panthers could offer an early read on how comfortable he has grown running Iowa’s offense since taking over the starting job.

While Northern Iowa is a heavy underdog at Kinnick Stadium, Dailey gives the Panthers a legitimate passing threat regardless of the score. He leads the team with 529 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception through two games, numbers that have Northern Iowa’s offense averaging 287 passing yards a game against just 63 rushing yards a game as a team. Tight end Brady McCullough has been his top target, catching three touchdown passes among his team-leading 98 receiving yards this season.

Northern Iowa is 1-1 on the year. Dailey’s ability to push the ball down the field against a Big Ten defense, a clear step up from the Panthers’ usual competition, will say something about how the rest of Northern Iowa’s season could unfold.

Diaz has emerged as Iowa’s most trusted target through two weeks, leading the Hawkeyes with 179 receiving yards. He turned in his biggest game of the season against Iowa State on Sept. 12, catching eight of 12 targets for 95 yards as Iowa escaped with a 16-13 win.

With running back Kamari Moulton listed as questionable and L.J. Phillips Jr. considered unlikely to play because of an ankle injury, Iowa’s passing game may lean even more heavily on Diaz against Northern Iowa. If the Panthers commit extra numbers to the run to slow Iowa’s ground game, Diaz figures to see plenty of opportunities underneath and down the field.
