Patriots-Seahawks Betting Report: Books Need Super Bowl Middle In Opener

The cliché states that there are two certainties in life — death and taxes.

Here’s a third: Betting will be huge on the NFL regular-season opener, even with an unusual Wednesday kickoff, as is the case in NFL Week 1 odds for the Patriots vs. Seahawks clash.

“It doesn’t matter what day the NFL starts — Tuesday or Wednesday, or a day that’s not even one of the seven,” DraftKings Sports director of operations Johnny Avello said. “Whatever day they start, there’s gonna be a huge audience, and it’s gonna be a heavily bet game.

“You could’ve put Jets vs. Titans on Wednesday and still gotten good handle. But since it’s Patriots-Seahawks, it’s gonna be one of the bigger starts to any season.”

Avello helps break down Patriots vs. Seahawks odds, in this rematch from Super Bowl 60.

Patriot Plays

Back in mid-May, DraftKings opened the Seahawks as 3.5-point home favorites for Wednesday’s 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff, and the spread stuck there all summer.

“There was absolutely no movement for months,” Avello said Tuesday afternoon. “That doesn’t mean it wasn’t generating good action. There was just no need to move.

“But as of Monday, we went to Seahawks -3 (-118).”

The reason for that? More bettors are weighing in on the Patriots and in multiple ways.

“I knew bettors would take the Patriots on the moneyline. Now, they’re taking the Patriots with the points,” Avello said. “So it’s no surprise that the line dropped to 3. I’m not sure that we’ll see 3.5 again.”

So where does Avello see action going as kickoff draws closer?

“I’m almost certain that the Patriots will continue to be bet on the moneyline,” Avello said, noting New England is currently +142 to pull the outright upset. “A lot of Patriots bettors are gonna take the plus number to win this game straight up.”

Which means DraftKings will likely be rooting for what’s termed a Super Bowl middle, where the favorite wins, but the underdog covers. So something like a Seattle 23-21 victory would be welcomed by bookmakers.

“We find ourselves in that situation quite a bit. We could be in that same position for 49ers-Rams on Thursday.”

More Scores

DraftKings’ Patriots-Seahawks total has been stagnant all offseason, opening and remaining at 44.5. And on Tuesday afternoon, on straight bets, it’s actually almost dead-even two-way action.

But rest assured, the public betting masses will flock to the Over between now and kickoff, if not on straight bets, then certainly on parlays/same-game parlays and such.

“I wouldn’t expect us needing the Over, even though the total has been pretty steady,” Avello said. “I can’t see the public betting anything but the Over.”

Player Prop Pops

Another big element of Wednesday’s game — and every game in NFL Week 1 odds, for that matter — is player props. These offerings have grown exponentially over the past few years.

Specifically, bettors love wagering on Player To Score First Touchdown and Anytime Touchdown.

“First Touchdown Scorer and Anytime Touchdown Scorer are the biggest prop bets on our network,” Avello said. “And on in-game wagering, we’ll have Next Touchdown Scorer and those types of props.”

So far, a couple of running backs are popular TD plays.

“Jadarian Price and Rhamondre Stevenson have taken some money on both anytime touchdown and first touchdown,” Avello said of the Seahawks and Pats running backs, respectively.

Price and Stevenson are +650 co-favorites to score the first TD on Wednesday night, with Stevenson +110 and Price +130 to score an anytime TD. Patriots wideout A.J. Brown, formerly with the Eagles, and Seahawks wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba are also getting attention in both markets, as will plenty more players by kickoff.

Smith-Njigba is +800 in First TD and +135 in Anytime TD, while Brown is +1000/+155.

“Touchdown scorers seem like the props that have really resonated with bettors and get the most handle of all the prop bets,” Avello said.

NASCAR Contender Rankings: Can Anyone Challenge Denny Hamlin, Christopher Bell?

Denny Hamlin can’t have more days like the one he had at the Southern 500.

A bad pit stop dropped him into the pack, and he got caught up damaging his car while battling for position.

He made the most out of what could have been a disastrous day and only lost 13 points off his lead. But another one of those and he’s no longer at the top of the standings.

Here are my NASCAR Cup Series championship contender rankings after one race in The Chase and with nine races remaining.

This weekend, the Cup teams are headed to the 1.25-mile World Wide Technology Raceway (Gateway).

On The Verge (Alphabetical Order):

Chris Buescher (RFK Racing No. 17 Ford, -88 points behind leader): Buescher bent a toe link before the halfway point at Darlington. He has never led a lap at Gateway.

William Byron (Hendrick Motorsports No. 24 Chevrolet, -114): His engine went up in smoke at Darlington and that’s been his season. He has one top 10 at Gateway.

Austin Cindric (Team Penske 2 Ford, -102): He needs a win at Gateway to get back into it. He won there in 2024.

Carson Hocevar (Spire Motorsports No. 77 Chevy, -89): Making Brad Keselowski angry is never a good thing. He’ll need to make some noise at Gateway, where he ran solid in his Cup debut in 2023.

Ryan Preece (RFK Racing No. 60 Ford, -104): Can’t have to come down pit road for a loose wheel like he did at Darlington. His average finish at Gateway is 19.7.

Daniel Suárez (Spire Motorsports No. 7 Chevy, -94): Suárez had a disappointing 21st at Darlington and averages a 22nd-place finish at Gateway.

Contender Rankings

10.

Joey Logano

Logano fell a spot in these rankings because he didn’t show enough speed at Darlington, which doesn’t give much hope that he’ll do well at intermediates. He didn’t earn any stage points and salvaged a ninth by staying out on old tires. Gateway is the place for him to start a championship run. He’s been top five at Gateway in each of the four Cup races there, starting with a win in 2022.

9.

Bubba Wallace

An eighth-place finish was good, but 15 stage points at Darlington is what was really great for Wallace. He has just one career top 10 at Gateway, though, and has an average finish there of 21.3. He needs a good day this Sunday.

8.

Chase Elliott

There was miscommunication on the final pit stop and some back-and-forth banter on the radio. It was not his team’s best day and Elliott finished 14th. The No. 9 team will need to be at its best the rest of the way. Elliott has one top five in three starts at Gateway.

7.

Kyle Larson

Larson seems to be in a good headspace. The team gambled a little bit at Darlington as he was running fourth but then stayed out on old tires when many pitted late in the race. He ended up finishing fifth. Larson did show championship promise as he led 99 laps. He is strong at Gateway, where he has an average finish of 9.5 in four starts.

6.

Chase Briscoe

Darlington is such a good track for Briscoe that a sixth-place finish was a little bit disappointing — especially considering it looked like he had the tools for a Southern 500 three-peat. He has one pole and one top five in four Gateway starts.

5.

Ty Gibbs

Gibbs finished second at Darlington but earned just one stage point, so he ranked seventh in points earned on the day. He needs more than that to remain on championship pace. He has one top 10 in three Gateway starts.

4.

Ryan Blaney

Blaney finished fourth at Darlington and earned 11 stage points. But he was never really a factor, and he’ll need to be a factor soon. Will Gateway be the place? He has two top fives and 120 laps led in four races.

3.

Tyler Reddick

Reddick said he felt good entering The Chase, and that showed at Darlington, as he won the opening stage and finished third. If he runs well at Gateway, it would be a sign that this team truly has returned to the form it had at the start of the year. He has one top five in four starts at Gateway with an average finish of 17.8.

2.

Christopher Bell

Bell is coming off the big win at Darlington and threatening Hamlin as the championship favorite. He is oozing confidence heading into Gateway, where he has been consistent but not dominant. There, he has finishes of ninth, 11th, seventh and seventh in his four starts.

1.

Denny Hamlin

Hamlin stays at the top of the list because of the season he has had and not because of his 18th at Darlington. Can he rebound at Gateway? For sure. He is the defending winner and has three top fives in four starts at the track.

Julián Quiñones Becomes Second-Ever Mexican Player Nominated For Ballon d’Or

Mexico had so many memorable moments as co-hosts of the 2026 World Cup and one of their most dynamic players has made the short list for soccer’s most prestigious awards.

Julián Quiñones has earned a spot on the 2026 Ballon d’Or shortlist, making him only the second Mexican player in history to be nominated for the award. Recently retired goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa was the first, earning a nomination in 2007.

The 29-year-old forward, who plays for both the Mexico national team and Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah, put together a season that combined individual scoring records with a standout World Cup run.

Quiñones closed out the 2025 Saudi Pro League season with 33 goals in 31 appearances, winning the league’s Golden Boot ahead of Ivan Toney and five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

He carried that form into the World Cup, where Mexico served as one of three co-host nations. In the tournament opener against South Africa, Quiñones scored Mexico’s first goal of the tournament, becoming the first player from a CONCACAF nation to score the opening goal of a World Cup.

–>

Quinones went on to score three more goals and add an assist as Mexico advanced to the round of 16, where the team was eliminated by England. England went on to finish third after an appearance in the semifinals.

Mexico also managed to end a 40-year drought in knockout stage matches with a round of 32 win over Ecuador. With four goals at the tournament, Quiñones joins Luis Hernandez and Javier Hernandez as the only Mexican players to score four goals at a single World Cup, tying the national record.

Quiñones switched his international allegiance from his native Colombia to Mexico in 2023.

Before moving to Saudi Arabia, he spent nearly a decade in Liga MX with Tigres UANL, Venados, Lobos BUAP, Atlas and Club América, appearing in 258 matches, scoring 94 goals and winning nine LIGA MX titles, including back-to-back championships with Atlas in 2021 and 2022 that ended a 70-year title drought for the club.

The Ballon d’Or winner will be announced on Monday, October 26, 2026. The ceremony will be held at the London Palladium in England, the first time the event has taken place there.

Contract Drama Over In TB: Baker Mayfield, Buccaneers Reportedly Agree

The game of contract chicken is officially over and quarterback Baker Mayfield has a secure future with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Buccaneers and Mayfield have agreed to a three-year, $165 million extension, putting an end to one of the summer’s most dramatic contract standoffs, ESPN reported Tuesday. The deal will earn Mayfield an average of $55 million per season, putting him into a tie for the third-highest average annual salary among quarterbacks, according to Spotrac.

Mayfield has come a long way from signing a one-year, $4 million prove-it deal in the 2023 offseason. After securing a major extension to stay in Tampa Bay long-term, all eyes now shift toward reclaiming the NFC South division title from the Carolina Panthers.

Mayfield has thrived despite the intense pressure of replacing Tom Brady since arriving in Tampa Bay. Mayfield has posted a 27–24 regular-season record and earned two playoff appearances during his tenure with the Buccaneers.

His peak performance came in 2024 when he posted career highs with 4,500 passing yards and 41 touchdowns. However, Mayfield’s gunslinger playstyle took a step back last season as injuries to primary targets Mike Evans and Chris Godwin disrupted the offense.

Mayfield pushed publicly for this payday as he was entering the final year of his current contract. He signed a three-year, $100 million extension with the Buccaneers in 2024. Now, he has a contract that pays him an equal yearly salary to Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. Patrick Mahomes and Dak Prescott are the only other players with a higher average annual salary than Mayfield.

Patriots RB TreVeyon Henderson Ruled Out For Season Opener vs

The New England Patriots will be without one of their options in the backfield for Wednesday night’s Super Bowl LX rematch against the Seattle Seahawks.

TreVeyon Henderson has been ruled out for the season opener after missing all three practices this week with an ankle injury.

Henderson suffered the ankle injury on Aug. 24 and hasn’t practiced since. The Patriots also ruled out center Ben Brown with a knee injury, and no other players carry injury designations heading into Wednesday’s game.

Henderson was a finalist for NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year last season, leading the Patriots in scrimmage yards and touchdowns. He rushed for 911 yards on 5.1 yards per carry and nine touchdowns, adding 35 receptions for 221 yards and a touchdown. The 39th overall pick in the 2025 draft out of Ohio State didn’t miss a single game as a rookie, making Wednesday’s setback a rare piece of adversity in his young career.

With Henderson sidelined, veteran Rhamondre Stevenson is expected to assume the lead-back role, a job he already took over down the stretch of New England’s playoff run last season.

New England opens its 2026 campaign in Seattle after falling to the Seahawks in Super Bowl LX. Now, the Patriots will try to get off on the right foot without one of their offensive contributors from last season.

Upon Further Review: What To Make Of New OCs, And

Tuesday, in a traditional NFL game week, is a day off.

We’re here to help you through that, as the last word wrapping up the weekend was and the first look at what’s still ahead. Each week, we’ll take you inside the league, making the extra call, researching a wild stat and introducing the names and faces that will shape the 2026 season in success and struggle.

And while we’re introducing things, the NFL will have 21 new offensive coordinators this season, a testament to the boom-or-bust nature of the job, where you’re either hot enough to become a head coach or ordinary enough to get fired. The middle ground is a thin strip of land, such that every NFL team will play more than half its schedule against new offensive coordinators.

As if starting a season in Australia weren’t challenge enough, the San Francisco 49ers will play 15 of 17 games against new offensive coordinators: their first eight opponents and their final seven. The Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers and New England Patriots have 14 such games as well, and especially early in the season, it’s that much harder to prepare, not knowing exactly what an opponent’s offense will actually look like.

To appreciate the full range of which way a new offensive coordinator can go, consider the Seattle Seahawks. Their new offensive coordinator in 2024, Ryan Grubb, got fired and is now back in college football at Alabama. His replacement, Klint Kubiak, parlayed a Super Bowl championship into becoming head coach of the Raiders. The new offensive coordinator you’re perhaps least likely to have heard of before is Seattle’s Brian Fleury, a defensive assistant as recently as 2019 and the 49ers’ tight ends coach the last four years.

–>

Game prep for Week 1 games can often mean pulling tape from a coach’s previous stops, sometimes even in college, to better anticipate what’s coming. Then you have games like Cardinals-Chargers, where Arizona has a new head coach in Mike LaFleur and a new offensive coordinator in Nathaniel Hackett going up against a first-time defensive coordinator in Los Angeles’ Chris O’Leary, who spent 2024 as the Chargers’ safety coach and was defensive coordinator at Western Michigan last year.

“With a lot of new faces calling plays in the league, you approach it like early games on your schedule,” O’Leary told me. “You use old film in the early parts of the year to see what they’ve done historically and also see what those teams have done in the past to make their current roster of players successful.

“As the season goes on, you have film from earlier in the season that you put a heavier emphasis on, but still watch that old tape to have a big picture of what those playcallers like to do and their tendencies.”

Chicago Bears Pittsburgh Steelers Fighting Regression

Want an underdog to root for in 2026? Try nearly any defending division champ.

Finishing in first place means a first-place schedule, and while that’s only three games out of 17, it sets up a default expectation of regression for the best teams of last season. Of eight defending division champs, just one is the oddsmakers’ favorite to repeat: the Philadelphia Eagles, who are still predicted to finish a game ahead of the Dallas Cowboys (via projected win totals).

But four other division champs — the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers — face the third-best odds out of four teams to win their divisions, so even finishing second is seen as overachieving.

If it seems like overreaction, it really isn’t. Of the eight 2024 division champs, only one (Eagles) pulled off the repeat, and only two out of eight (Houston Texans and Los Angeles Rams) improved on their 2024 record. Add up the win totals for the 2024 division champs, and those teams combined to win 21 fewer games in 2025, an average drop of 2.6 wins.

The idea that the NFC East is the lone source of continuity is amusing in itself, in that the Eagles’ repeat last year ended a run of different teams winning the division every year from 2005 to 2024.

San Francisco 49ers Los Angeles Rams Freaky Friday

I’ve had international datelines as an NFL writer, but none of them across the International Date Line, as the 49ers and Rams are in Australia this week. You can get jet lag just from doing the math on what time it is there. Their game will be broadcast from Melbourne with an 8:35 p.m. ET kickoff Thursday, but will go in the history books as a Friday game because local time for kickoff is 10:35 a.m. Friday.

“I feel like I’m in the future,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday, trying to understand calling home to talk to his family, which is somehow the day before.

Stranger still: Even though the game will be kicked off in the morning down under, it will qualify officially as a “prime time game,” according to the Elias Sports Bureau, which recognizes a prime time game as any that has its kickoff at 7 p.m. ET or later.

The NFL generally avoids Friday games except for recent forays into Black Friday as an expansion of Thanksgiving games. It’s the first time either the 49ers or Rams have played on a Friday in nearly 40 years, and both of their last two Friday games were against each other, with Joe Montana leading San Francisco to wins over Los Angeles in pre-Christmas regular-season finales in 1984 and 1986.

Los Angeles Chargers

Which NFL head coaches have the best record in Week 1 games? Only 11 out of 32 have a winning record as head coaches in Week 1 — another 11 have never won an opener as head coach, though six of those are guys making their debut this week.

The best? The Chargers’ Jim Harbaugh is 6-0 and the Eagles’ Nick Sirianni is 5-0, with the Rams’ Sean McVay close behind with a 7-2 record in Week 1. After those, the coach whose Week 1 record is most improved from their overall record is Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles, who has a .452 winning percentage for his career, but a 6-2 (.750) mark in season openers.

Most curiously bad Week 1 coach? That might be the Patriots’ Mike Vrabel, who has a .586 win percentage overall but is 2-5 for his career in Week 1 and has to go across the country to face the Seahawks on Wednesday.

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel is 2-5 in his career in season openers. (Photo by Nick Cammett/Getty Images)

–>

And temper your expectations for new head coaches in their first year on the job. Last year, those coaches went 1-6 in Week 1, with the Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen getting the lone win. This year’s rookie coaches are good for at least one win, unless the Raiders and Miami Dolphins manage to tie with Kubiak and Jeff Hafley squaring off in their first games as head coaches. Of the rest, only the Baltimore Ravens’ Jesse Minter, opening against the Indianapolis Colts, is favored to win.

Ted Hurst IIITampa Bay Buccaneers

One of the more obscure but fun streaks you can keep an eye on this week: The Bucs have gotten a touchdown from a rookie receiver in Week 1 in each of the last three seasons: Trey Palmer in 2023, Jalen McMillan in 2024 and two from Emeka Egbuka last year.

Can Ted Hurst, a third-round pick from Georgia State with a promising mix of size and speed, keep that streak going this week as they face the Bengals in Cincinnati? Just remember that nobody gets touchdowns from rookie receivers in Week 1 wins like the Bucs do. Since 2023, they have four, and the rest of the NFL has … three of them, total.

2027 Way-Too-Early INDYCAR Power Rankings: Surprise! Alex Palou On Top

Want to talk 2027 INDYCAR racing?

I know, it’s a little hard, as INDYCAR has not even released a full schedule.

Not knowing the exact number of ovals and road courses makes predicting who will be better and who will be worse more difficult than normal.

But with 2026 fresh in our minds, here’s my waaaaayyyy-too-early power rankings going into next season.

On the verge: Marcus Armstrong, Scott Dixon, Rinus VeeKay

10.

Josef Newgarden

He was eighth in points. But frankly, any of the three drivers listed as being on the verge could be here with a strong argument — especially because Newgarden struggled at several races. He did triumph on a couple of short ovals where he is always good. But Newgarden was hurt for much of the year, and leaving him off the top 10 seemed wrong.

9.

Marcus Ericsson

Ericsson was seventh in the standings, marking a huge turnaround from 2025 when he was 20th. He got the win at Markham and the Andretti Global team should be strong, with all three drivers returning next season.

8.

Will Power

Power finished 11th in the standings and that was mostly on him in his first year at Andretti after a lengthy Penske tenure. He led laps in 12 races but only had five podiums. Fewer mistakes and some better racing luck, and he could have a solid 2027.

7.

Felix Rosenqvist

Rosenqvist, the Indianapolis 500 winner, makes the move from Meyer Shank to McLaren for next season. He should be solid and quite comfortable, returning to an organization he previously drove for — even if they at one point let him go.

6.

Pato O’Ward

O’Ward was fourth in the standings this year but now that McLaughlin and Malukas have improved, this means he will have to get better at the same pace. With his inconsistency on road and street courses (he did win at Mid-Ohio), it is hard to be confident that will happen.

5.

Scott McLaughlin

The pole and the win in the season finale at Laguna Seca was a statement victory at a track that Alex Palou has typically dominated. It was a sign that McLaughlin, who was sixth in the standings in 2026, has more wins coming.

4.

David Malukas

Malukas was fifth in the standings in 2026 and has a huge upside as he enters his second season at Team Penske. He will likely need to win a couple of races, though, to finish ahead of the projected top three.

3.

Kyle Kirkwood

Kirkwood was second in the standings in 2026 and earned two big wins at Arlington and Washington. He will be in the mix, and the only reason he is third is because cracking a Palou-Lundgaard combination is going to take everything going right.

2.

Christian Lundgaard

Yes, I know it hasn’t been announced yet but who else is going in that seat? Lundgaard is going to an organization that traditionally has been a stronger program than where he was. He finished 10 points out of second this year, and he could gain those by driving for Ganassi.

1.

Alex Palou

Until someone keeps the five-time champion — who has won the title in each of the last four years and has won 14 races in the last two seasons — from winning races, he’s going to be No. 1. There’s no reason to think he loses anything going into 2027.

Mahomes Mountain Week 1: ‘It’s Go Time’ As 4 Quarterbacks

Patrick Mahomes’ place atop FOX Sports’ Nick Wright’s NFL quarterback power rankings has been so consistent the segment adopted his name.

Mahomes remained atop Wright’s summit, and can remind people why he’s the king of the mountain when he starts the Kansas City Chiefs’ Week 1 game against the Denver Broncos, nine months after sustaining a season-ending torn ACL.

But if he stumbles, a group of worthy quarterbacks will try to dethrone him with their Week 1 performances. As for the rest of the rankings, Wright cracked down from his preseason edition, cutting a group of 32 down to 28.

Dak in ‘elite company’ with Burrow, Will Patrick be atop the Week 1 Mahomes Mountain? | FTF

Dak in ‘elite company’ with Burrow, Will Patrick be atop the Week 1 Mahomes Mountain? | FTF

Mahomes Mountain is back ahead of Week 1 of the 2026/27 NFL season, and Nick Wright lists his QB hierarchy, including Dak Prescott, Joe Burrow, and Patrick Mahomes. Chris Broussard and Kevin Wildes add their input as well, including bumping up Caleb Williams and Drake Maye.

“It’s go time,” Wright said. “It was the offseason, you know, hopes springs eternal… There’s only spots for seven rows.”

Here’s where each of those quarterbacks fell on Mahomes Mountain ahead of Week 1:

Off The Mountain

Geno SmithNew York JetsTua TagovailoaAtlanta FalconsJacoby BrissettArizona CardinalsDeshaun WatsonCleveland Browns

Wright: “These four quarterbacks are not climbing the mountain. Geno… it makes me upset. Tua, who I don’t think is long to be the starter. Jacoby, shout out for getting paid. DeShaun, who’s not long to be the starter.”

“Of these guys, the most likely to make the mountain is Geno.”

7th Row: ‘Fans Believe’

Wright: “Cam Ward, Tyler Shough, Jaxson Dart are in one category: “Young players. Fans believe in them.”

Bryce YoungCarolina PanthersAaron RodgersPittsburgh SteelersMalik WillisMiami DolphinsKirk CousinsLas Vegas Raiders

Wright: “Bryce got to the playoffs, that’s kind of the end of the good story. Aaron’s turning 43. Malik Willis has no weapons at all. Kirk kind of keeping the seat warm for Fernando Mendoza.”

6th Row: ‘Polarizing Players’

Bo NixDenver BroncosJayden DanielsWashington CommandersBrock PurdySan Francisco 49ersC.J. StroudHouston TexansKyler MurrayMinnesota VikingsDaniel JonesIndianapolis Colts

Wright: “I would say these are polarizing players. All of them.

“Bo Nix, more wins than any quarterback ever through two years. Good numbers, been in the playoffs both years. Jayden Daniels, awesome rookie season, injury-riddled second year. Brock Purdy, once-upon-a-time, mainstay of the show. Last couple years, couple injuries, little disappointing play. CJ Stroud, his star is, you know, dimmed a bit.I think the book is in on Kyler, but there’s a lot of hype surrounding the Vikings this year. Daniel Jones, who was in the midst of what we thought was a career renaissance, then popped his achillies.”

5th Row: ‘Teams Are Content’

Jalen HurtsPhiladelphia EaglesJared GoffDetroit LionsJordan LoveGreen Bay PackersJustin HerbertLos Angeles ChargersBaker MayfieldTampa Bay Buccaneers

Wright: “If you wanted to say, ‘anyone of these guys is the most underrated quarterback in the league,’ make the argument… All of these guys on the mountain are outside of the top 10, you can make a case for anyone of them to in the top 10, or a strong case against it.

“My feeling on these guys is simple, if they are your starting quarterback, you’re content.”

4th Row: ‘Unquestionably, Great Resumes’

Joe BurrowCincinnati BengalsDak PrescottDallas CowboysTrevor LawrenceJacksonville JaguarsSam DarnoldSeattle Seahawks

Wright: “Four guys with pretty, unquestionably, great resumes.

“Joe Burrow throws as pretty of a ball as anybody in the league. One of two active quarterbacks to beat Mahomes in the playoffs… Dak Prescott, if he’s healthy, they have an elite offense. If he’s healthy, he produces… The Prince (Trevor Lawrence) in Year 2 with Liam Coen with more from Travis Hunter, with more from Parker Washington, coming off his best individual season, and a great playoff game, even though he lost it.

“Sam Darnold, back-to-back 4,000 yard seasons. The defending Super Bowl champion for one of the Super Bowl favorites.”

3rd Row: ‘Could Win MVP’

Drake MayeNew England PatriotsCaleb WilliamsChicago BearsLamar JacksonBaltimore Ravens

Wright: “Two young guys and one veteran, any of whom could win MVP this year.”

“Drake Maye absolutely could win MVP this year. It’s not a bold prediction to say Drake could win MVP this year, even though he’s not my pick. Caleb, I think has a very good chance at MVP this year because I think they’re going to have to score a lot of points. Lamar, basically every year is an MVP favorite.”

2nd Row: ‘Missed The Moment’ To Dethrone Mahomes

Josh AllenBuffalo BillsMatthew StaffordLos Angeles Rams

Wright: “The defending league MVP, and the five-time offseason MVP, in Josh Allen. Arguably the two strongest arms in the league… Patrick is still atop because the guy’s who could have taken… missed the moment.”

1st Row: ‘The Best In the League’

Patrick MahomesKansas City Chiefs

Wright: “I understand it’s now a controversial opinion to say Mahomes is the best quarterback in the league… We’ve debated a bunch if the Chiefs are a playoff team or not, even having the fifth-best Super Bowl odds, is that too high. Is Patrick Mahomes, coming off a torn ACL, the only quarterback on this mountain that, with that exact Chiefs roster, with that exact supporting case, we would be talking about at all as a legitimate Super Bowl threat. I would argue, yes.”
