If there’s any place in the United States where the best in college football could perfectly cross over with the best in motorsports, it’s the state of Indiana. And Saturday, Memorial Stadium in Bloomington delivered exactly that. 

Ahead of No. 5 Indiana’s highly anticipated Week 7 home game against No. 4 Ohio State, INDYCAR superstar Alex Palou traded his No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda for a different ride.

Palou — who recently finished the 2026 INDYCAR season with his fourth straight championship and fifth in six years — jumped behind the wheel of an Indy car, dropping Mark Ingram off on the set of “Big Noon Kickoff” before Indiana-Ohio State.

Ingram, who was sporting a custom Indiana racing helmet, arrived at the entrance of Memorial Stadium, threw his hands in the air and belted out a “Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoosiers!’ chant as the crowd erupted.

Unsurprisingly, the 29-year-old Spanish driver also arrived in style, donning an Indiana-themed fire suit and helmet, which were custom designed by INDYCAR. The look features a nod to the Hoosiers’ 16-0 national championship run last season, a national title patch and the iconic Indiana candy stripes.

Bloomington didn’t wait for kickoff. In fact, some Hoosiers fans never even went to bed.

Hours before Indiana and Ohio State were set to square off in a top-five showdown, fans were already lining the streets, packing bars and turning Bloomington into a sea of cream and crimson. The party started Friday night and carried into Saturday morning, offering an early glimpse of just how much this game means to a town that has waited a long time for a moment like this.

FOX Sports’ Ben Portnoy, an Indiana graduate who was on the ground in Bloomington, captured video early Saturday morning of fans lined up outside Upstairs Pub and Kilroy’s along the city’s famous Kirkwood Ave. The line wrapped around and stretched down the street, with some fans bundled in Hoosier-themed blankets. 

Portnoy spoke with undergraduates who had been waiting since 1 a.m. to get inside.

Former Indiana center Mike Katic joined FOX’s “Big Noon Kickoff” broadcast from The Upstairs Pub where he fired up the crowd with a bold statement: “The biggest game in Bloomington history.”

Katic wasn’t done there.

“We have the best team in America, the best fans in America, the best university in America,” he shouted before leading the crowd in a “Hoo Hoo Hoo Hoosiers” chant.

The energy spilled onto the BNK set, where fans packed in around the stage, waving Indiana flags and holding signs featuring plenty of comedic jabs. 

For veteran Indianapolis Star journalist Zach Oosterman, who has lived in Bloomington for 20 years, the scene was unlike anything he had witnessed in town. 

“Lived here 20 years. Never seen Bloomington like this,” he wrote on X. 

FOX Sports analyst Brady Quinn echoed that sentiment from the set, calling it “a crazy environment” unlike anything Bloomington had experienced for an Ohio State game.

And there’s a reason the anticipation surrounding Saturday’s game feels different.

This marks the 100th meeting between Indiana and Ohio State. It’s a rematch of the 2025 Big Ten Championship Game, when Indiana stunned top-ranked Ohio State, 13-10, snapping a 30-game losing streak against the Buckeyes. 

Now, with the Hoosiers set to take the field against the program they dethroned, Bloomington is embracing a moment that feels bigger than a football game.

The fans made that clear long before kickoff.

Four straight games above 10 yards per attempt have Julian Sayin at 1,772 passing yards and 17 touchdowns with 2 interceptions this season. He threw for 324 yards and 3 touchdowns at Iowa on Oct. 3 and for 4 touchdowns against Maryland on Oct. 10.

Indiana has 20 sacks in six games, so Sayin meets a front that gets home. Ohio State averages 337.8 passing yards per game and 42.7 points, and both numbers depend on how that rush plays out.

No other Buckeye has more than 245 receiving yards, and Jeremiah Smith has 916 with 11 touchdowns on 48 catches. He caught 4 touchdowns for 217 yards against Illinois on Sept. 26, 2 for 206 yards at Iowa on Oct. 3 and 2 for 93 yards against Maryland on Oct. 10.

Indiana allows 188.3 passing yards per game and is 6-0, with no game above 23 points allowed and 71 in total. Ohio State has no second receiver near Smith’s production to turn to against that defense.

A 4-touchdown game on just 11 attempts against Howard on Sept. 12 is one piece of Josh Hoover’s 17 touchdown passes without an interception on 129 attempts. He threw for 263 yards and 2 touchdowns at Nebraska on Oct. 10, 251 yards and 4 touchdowns at Rutgers on Oct. 3 and 273 yards against Western Kentucky on Sept. 19.

Ohio State has 9 sacks in six games and allows 150.7 passing yards per game, so Hoover works against coverage more than pressure. Indiana averages 40.2 points per game against a Buckeyes defense that has allowed 13.2.

Indiana’s rushing lead belongs to Turbo Richard, with 597 yards and 5 touchdowns, ahead of Beebe at 551. He ran for 204 yards on 13 carries at Rutgers on Oct. 3 and 149 yards on 15 carries against Western Kentucky on Sept. 19, then had 8 carries for 10 yards at Nebraska on Oct. 10.

Ohio State allows 96.2 rushing yards per game, and Indiana has 1,328 rushing yards. The Hoosiers average 221.3 on the ground, and Richard supplies the most yards of it.

Ryan Day or Curt Cignetti? 

That’s the question FOX Sports college football analyst Matt Leinart answered ahead of Saturday’s top-five showdown between Ohio State and Indiana on FOX.

“Ryan Day is one of the best coaches in all of college football,” Leinart said on Week 7’s edition of Big Noon Kickoff. “He won a national championship, but I’m going with Curt Cignetti for the Indiana Hoosiers.”

For Leinart, it all comes down to Cignetti’s track record at Indiana.

“Since he’s [Cignetti] taken over [at Indiana], this is the winningest program in college football at 33-2. He is the back-to-back National Coach of the Year, made the playoffs in both seasons and is well on his way to a third season, won six straight against top-10 opponents, including the Ohio State Buckeyes in last year’s Big Ten Championship Game.

“Indiana was the worst program in the history of college football before he took over, and now they’re the defending national champions, and like Cig said: All he does is win. You can google him.”

After stops at IUP, Elon and James Madison, Curt Cignetti arrived at Indiana in 2024 and inherited a program that had lost 27 of its previous 36 games. He quickly turned the Hoosiers into a college football powerhouse.

After an 11-2 season in 2024 that ended with a College Football Playoff appearance, Indiana took another leap in 2025, beating Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game en route to a 16-0 season and the first national title in program history. The Buckeyes had beaten the Hoosiers 38-15 in Columbus in 2024, snapping Indiana’s 10-game winning streak.

Since becoming Ohio State’s full-time head coach in 2019, Ryan Day has led the Buckeyes to an 84-13 record, highlighted by a national championship in 2024.

Saturday’s matchup features two of the Big Ten’s most complete teams. Indiana ranks second in the conference in total offense (462.7 yards per game) and third in scoring (40.2 points per game). The Hoosiers also boast the conference’s top scoring defense, allowing just 11.8 points per game, and rank third in total defense (263.5 yards allowed per game).

Ohio State, meanwhile, leads the Big Ten in both total offense (503.5 yards per game) and scoring (42.7 points per game). The Buckeyes are just as formidable on defense, ranking second in the conference in both total defense (246.8 yards allowed per game) and scoring defense (13.2 points allowed per game).
