How to Watch the World Cup Today: Schedule, Times, TV,

Day 25 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues the Round of 16, with Vinicius Junior’s Brazil facing Erling Haaland’s Norway in a rematch of their stunning 1998 World Cup meeting. The day closes in Mexico City, where an unbeaten Mexico side that has yet to concede a goal hosts Harry Kane and England. Both matches air on FOX, with every game streaming live and on demand on FOX One.

World Cup Schedule for Sunday, July 5

Brazil vs. Norway

  • Time: 4 p.m. ET
  • TV: FOX
  • Stream: Watch 3 days free on FOX One
  • Venue: New York New Jersey Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ

Brazil went 2-1-0 through Group C and needed a stoppage-time winner to edge Japan in the Round of 32, staying unbeaten behind Vinicius Junior’s attack. Norway finished 2-0-1 in Group I and advanced past the Ivory Coast on another goal from Erling Haaland, who’s tied for second with 5 goals for this year’s Golden Boot race.

Player to Watch

Erling Haaland

While Brazil has many ways it can beat opponents, Norway is far more limited. Fortunately for The Vikings, its main weapon, Haaland, is one of the best forwards of his generation. If he can find openings in Brazil’s defense, it might be enough to spark an upset. He is certainly going to be the most consequential player in this game.

Mexico vs. England

  • Time: 9 p.m. ET
  • TV: FOX
  • Stream: Watch 3 days free on FOX One
  • Venue: Mexico City Stadium, Mexico City, Mexico

Mexico has won all four of its matches without conceding a goal, and the host nation returns to Mexico City for the Round of 16 riding that momentum and a raucous, high-altitude crowd. England is also unbeaten, advancing behind Harry Kane’s five goals after a Round of 32 win over DR Congo.

Player to Watch

Harry Kane

Along with Haaland, Kane is one of the best center forwards of his generation. Thus far in the tournament, Kane has been very effective in bailing England out of otherwise subpar performances. In this game, Kane will face the tournament’s best defensive team that will be highly focused on stopping him.

But even if Kane can be stopped from scoring, he can also be very valuable drifting back into midfield and helping create plays. If Kane struggles in this game, it could be a very long day for the Three Lions. On the other hand, if Kane can find the back of the net early, it will make life easier for England to deal with the crowd and the altitude the rest of the way.

How to Watch Mexico vs

Mexico and England meet in their 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 match on Sunday, July 5, 2026 from Mexico City Stadium. First kick for tonight’s clash was originally scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET, but has officially been delayed by one hour due to severe weather conditions in Mexico City, as announced by Jules Breach on the FOX Sports pregame broadcast.

The match is now tentatively scheduled to begin at 9:00 p.m. ET.

This is the second consecutive knockout match at the stadium to be hit by a weather holdup at Mexico City Stadium, following a similar storm delay before Mexico’s Round of 32 victory over Ecuador.

Mexico have won all four of their matches at this tournament, scoring eight goals while keeping a perfect defensive record through the group stage and their Round of 32 win over Ecuador. Julian Quinones leads the side with three goals in the tournament, while Raul Jimenez has added two, including a goal against Ecuador that gave him 47 international strikes for Mexico.

England are through to the Round of 16 for the third consecutive tournament. Harry Kane has been the decisive figure, scoring five times so far, including both goals in a comeback win over DR Congo. Kane became the first English player to score twice in a World Cup knockout match since Gary Lineker in 1990.

The winner of this match will take on Erling Haaland and Norway, who defeated Brazil earlier today 2-1.

Below are the details on how to watch.

Mexico vs. England Preview

Jude Bellingham finding space between Mexico’s midfield and back line is the key battle in this one.

Bellingham is England’s connector, dropping deep to dictate play and still arriving late into the box himself. England has produced 53 chances in four matches, and a lot of the best ones start with him. Clean touches in those inside channels, and England turns possession into real danger fast.

Mexico’s answer is discipline. El Tri hasn’t allowed a goal in four matches, and that spine closes space before attacks ever reach the box. Crowd Bellingham early, force him wide and the game stays on Mexico’s terms.

Watch the first few England possessions in the middle third. That will tell you whether Bellingham is running this match or getting swallowed by Mexico’s shape.

Player to Watch

Harry Kane

Kane is one of the best center forwards of his generation.

Mexico vs. England Prediction, Odds, Picks For World Cup Match

Mexico against England at one of the most historic stadiums in the world? How much better could it possibly get?

Mexico will face England in a 2026 FIFA World Cup round of 16 showdown on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Mexico City Stadium on FOX.

Mexico has not lost a home game since an October 2018 friendly vs Chile and has not lost a competitive home game since a Sept. 2013 World Cup qualifier vs Honduras.

El Tri comes into this match off a dominating 2-0 win over Ecuador in the round of 32, ending Mexico’s 40-year drought of not winning a knockout stage game.

With its win, Mexico has become just the third team to win its first four matches without conceding at a World Cup (1990 Italy, 1986 Brazil).

Meanwhile, England came from behind to beat DR Congo 2-1 in the round of 32. The win marked England’s first-ever World Cup win after trailing at half, and its second World Cup win after conceding the first goal.

Harry Kane was the hero against Congo DR, scoring in the 75th and 86th minutes to give the Three Lions the win. Kane now has five goals so far this summer.

Let’s check out the odds for the massive Mexico vs. England matchup at FanDuel Sportsbook as of July 5.

  • Under: -170 (bet $10 to win $15.88 total)

Mexico vs. England Prediction, Pick

From FOX Sports Research:

  • Mexico is one of two teams (Spain) that has yet to allow a goal so far this tournament as it has outscored its opponents 8-0 through four games. Meanwhile, after its dominating opening match against Croatia, England has looked very sluggish. The Three Lions had to settle for a 0-0 draw against Ghana, and then struggled in the first half against Panama. Those struggles continued as England trailed DR Congo late in the second half before Harry Kane put the nation on his shoulders. With the best home field advantage in sports, combined with the heat, altitude and momentum, take Mexico to advance in an upset.

USA Star Folarin Balogun Cleared To Play In World Cup

FIFA has cleared the way for U.S. men’s national team forward Folarin Balogun to play in the USA’s World Cup round of 16 match against Belgium in Seattle on Monday, multiple sources confirmed to us Sunday. The news was first reported by The Athletic.

Balogun — who scored the game-winning goal in last week’s round of 32 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina — was shown a controversial red card later in the match, triggering an automatic one-game suspension.

But under FIFA‘s own protocols, the play should not have been flagged to Brazilian referee Raphael Claus by the video assistant, who asked Claus to review the play on the monitor following a slow-motion replay of the incident. Balogun was not even cautioned by Claus on the field.

While the U.S. Soccer Federation had no recourse to appeal the red card under FIFA rules, global soccer’s governing body made the decision to allow Balogun to play in the Americans’ next match.

In a statement from U.S. Soccer via our Stu Holden, the federation responded to the lifted suspension saying: “We accept the decision of the Disciplinary Committee and are pleased that Folarin Balogun is eligible to compete tomorrow. Our full attention is focused on the Round of 16 match against Belgium in Seattle, and we look forward to the continued support of our amazing fans.”

Balogun leads the USA with three goals at this World Cup.

Chapter 4, Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code on suspension of implementation of disciplinary measures notes the “judicial body may decide to fully or partially suspend the implementation of a disciplinary measure.”

Additionally, the code explains: “If the person benefiting from a suspended sanction commits another infringement of a similar nature and gravity during the probationary period, the suspension shall be revoked by the judicial body and the sanction enforced without prejudice to any additional sanction imposed for the new infringement.”

Sports World Reacts To USA Striker Folarin Balogun Being Cleared

Surprise!

FOX Sports’ Doug McIntyre and Melissa Ortiz reported on Sunday afternoon that United States forward Folarin Balogun has been cleared to play in the country’s Monday night round of 16 matchup against Belgium.

As for the backstory, Balogun was given a red card in the 64th minute of play of Team USA’s round of 32 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina, leading to the United States being down a player the rest of the match. Granted, they were still victorious, winning 2-0. Moreover, Balogun, who scored in the 45th minute, was originally set to be suspended for the round of 16 match before Sunday’s ruling, which determined that he should’ve never been assessed the red card.

In the wake of the news about Balogun, Team USA alumni and the sports world at large took to X to express their excitement:

Here’s What To Know About The Oddsboard:

The Favorite

Four wins and now, four poles later, Denny Hamlin finds himself at the top of the oddsboard again. With 824 laps led on the season, he also sits first in the standings. Hamlin is coming off a Sonoma race where he started ninth and finished 26th. When the Cup series last raced at Chicagoland back in 2019, Hamlin finished 15th after starting ninth.

One To Watch

Will Tyler Reddick reclaim the No. 1 spot in the NASCAR Cup standings after this weekend? Well, for several weeks, he led the pack until Hamlin took over. Now, Reddick is only one point behind Denny. In 2026 so far, the driver of the No. 45 23XI Toyota has five wins and four poles. He’s led 428 laps and has 132 stage points. He comes into this race on the heels of a disastrous Sonoma where he finished at the very back of the field because of mechanical issues.

Why Folarin Balogun Can Play For USA vs

In a stunning turn of events, United States mens’ national team striker Folarin Balogun will be available to play vs. Belgium despite receiving a red card in the Americans’ World Cup round of 32 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The news comes just two days after FIFA ruled that Balogun would indeed serve his automatic one-game suspension for receiving a red card with no path for the U.S. to appeal. So, what changed?

Here is everything to know about why Balogun will be available for USA vs. Belgium on Monday at Seattle Stadium:

Why Can Balogun Play?

(Photo by Matthew Huang/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images)

–>

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee ruled that Balogun’s suspension would be suspended for one year, citing Chapter 4, Article 27 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code on suspension of implementation of disciplinary measures, which notes that the “judicial body may decide to fully or partially suspend the implementation of a disciplinary measure.”

When Will Balogun Serve His Suspension?

Folarin Balogun will only have to serve his one-match suspension if he commits another infringement of “similar nature and gravity during the year-long probationary period.” In the event that happens, FIFA will revoke the suspension and the sanction will be enforced “without prejudice to any additional sanction imposed for the new infringement.”

Has This Happened Before?

–>

Yes. Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo directly benefited from a similar ruling before the tournament.

Ronaldo received a direct red card during Portugal’s final World Cup qualifier for elbowing Ireland defender Dara O’Shea in the back. The FIFA disciplinary code typically mandates a strict three-match ban for violent conduct, which would have ruled Ronaldo out of the opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Instead, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee issued a suspended suspension, which allowed Ronaldo to serve his one-match suspension in a pre-World Cup friendly and deferred the remaining two matches under a one-year probationary period.

Why Was Balogun Suspended?

Balogun was sent off in the 64th minute of the second half by referee Rafael Claus after VAR review showed that he stepped on Bosnia and Herzegovina player Tarik Muharemović’s ankle.

How USA Players Learned Folarin Balogun’s Red-Card Suspension Was Reversed

SEATTLE — Imagine sitting on a bus headed to training, just minding your own business. Maybe you’re listening to music or playing “Clash Royale” or zoning out, preparing for the biggest game of your career.

Then, all of a sudden, you get bombarded with breaking news alerts on social media and texts from family members asking if it’s true.

That’s what the U.S. men’s national team players experienced Sunday morning when it was confirmed that starting striker Folarin Balogun would be able to play in Monday’s massive 2026 World Cup round of 16 match vs. Belgium.

Balogun, who leads the team with three goals at this World Cup, was shown a controversial red card in the round of 32 against Bosnia and Herzegovina last week. This triggered a one-game suspension, meaning the USA would have to play a European giant in Belgium without him.

Then on Monday morning, FIFA overturned the decision, clearing the way for Balogun to play.

–>

Players were happily stunned. Somewhere in the 10-minute drive from their hotel in downtown Seattle to the Husky Soccer Stadium on the University of Washington’s campus, they saw the news on their phones and were then quickly informed by U.S. Soccer that, yes, this was real.

“We weren’t quite sure if it was true or not,” defender Chris Richards told reporters ahead of Sunday’s training session. “I think everyone knows with AI and this and that, there can be a few question marks.”

“My family probably sent me eight tweets, but I wasn’t sure — nobody told us ahead of time that this was happening,” Richards added. “I didn’t respond [to them] because I didn’t know, and then, ultimately, it got confirmed pretty much by the time we stepped off the bus.”

A U.S. Soccer spokesman told reporters at the training field only that “we were engaged in the process with the disciplinary committee.”

–>

Players don’t really care how it happened — they were ready to face Belgium with whatever adjustments and lineup manager Mauricio Pochettino decided to roll out. The thought was that it would be the same 10 regular starters with Ricardo Pepi coming in for Balogun as the closest like-for-like swap despite their different skill sets.

“Yeah, I mean we have confidence in every guy regardless of who’s gonna step out there,” Richards said. “But I think knowing that we have a full roster maybe gives us a little bit of extra confidence.”

Christian Pulisic, whose combination play with Balogun has become an explosive part of the U.S. attack, said the team hasn’t been training that differently over the past few days when they thought they wouldn’t have their top striker.

“Of course, you have other guys filling in and trying to figure out what the lineup could look like,” said the superstar winger, who is still searching for his first goal this tournament. “But we didn’t have anything set. Not some crazy adjustment we have to make [now]. We have a day, we have to train, and yeah, it’ll be great.”

–>

Balogun, who turned 25 years old on Friday, spoke with reporters a few days ago and handled every question about the red card and his suspension with maturity and class. He shook each referee’s hand after the round of 32 match, explaining later that he wanted to set an example to little kids watching and showing them “the correct way to handle things, even when you think it’s unjust.”

American supporters around the country have spent the last several days making their opinions on the matter known with clever memes and the words “Free Balo” on t-shirts and Starbucks coffee cups.

So what was Balogun’s reaction when he found out that he’d be able to play?

“He’s keeping it Mr. Cool right now,” Richards said with a chuckle. “I think he’s pretty excited, but you wouldn’t quite know right now.”

The rest of the team, however, was “lit,” Richards said, smiling. Weston McKennie shouted, “Welcome back!” in a joking way toward Balogun as practice began.

“Obviously, we look to Flo to lead the front line, and he’s done it really well so far throughout the tournament,” Richards said. “We’re really happy and excited that that’s been overturned.”

Added Pulisic: “Just knowing that we’re going to have him around tomorrow, it just helps so much and gives us a big boost.”
