Apple’s M3 Ultra jaw-dropping performance revealed in early benchmark test

Apple’s most powerful chip ever is the M3 Ultra, which is currently exclusive to the 2025 Mac Studio. With up to an 80-core GPU, twice what’s available on the M4 Max, this chipset is a beast for graphics performance. However, how much better is it really than the M4 Max and the previous M2 Ultra?

In a Geekbench 6 result that surfaced on the web and that was spotted by MacRumors, the top-end M3 Ultra with an 80-core GPU had a Metal score of 259,668, up from 222,582 with the M2 Ultra processor with a 76-core GPU. If you do the maths, it gives up to 16% faster graphic performance than the previous iteration.

While the result may vary a little, the 16-inch MacBook Pro with M4 Max and a 40-core GPU has a Metal score of 187,460, which means the graphic performance between the M4 Max Mac Studio and M3 Ultra Mac Studio could be around 38%.

A CPU performance test revealed that the M3 Ultra is up to 10% faster than the M4 chip, so users upgrading to this more expensive Mac should know that the M3 Ultra’s benefits lie in the GPU performance.

Apple says this chip has been built using the company’s “innovative UltraFusion packaging architecture, which links two M3 Max dies over 10,000 high-speed connections that offer low latency and high bandwidth.”

Officially, Cupertino states the M3 Ultra provides the most performance of any Mac chip while still delivering “exceptional power efficiency” thanks to its silicon. It features up to a 32-core CPU with 24 performance cores and eight efficiency cores, up to 1.5x the performance of the M2 Ultra and 1.8x of the M1 Ultra. Its GPU makes it perform up to 2x faster than the M2 Ultra and 2.6x faster than the M1 Ultra.

Apple says the M3 Ultra provides the most performance of any Mac chip while still delivering exceptional power efficiency thanks to its silicon. It features up to a 32-core CPU with 24 performance cores and eight efficiency cores, up to 1.5x the performance of the M2 Ultra and 1.8x of the M1 Ultra. It also has the largest GPU in any Apple chip, with up to 80 graphics cores, making it up to 2x faster performance than the M2 Ultra and 2.6x than the M1 Ultra.

The new Mac Studio starts with 96GB of RAM, but thanks to the M3 Ultra chip, this is the first Apple Silicon Mac to feature up to 512GB of RAM. Apple says this spec removes limitations for ”pro workloads that demand large amounts of graphics memory like 3D rendering, visual effects, and AI.”

The M3 Ultra Mac Studio will be available in stores starting March 12.

Latest WhatsApp beta introduces yet another useless AI feature

We already knew that Meta was planning to infuse more of its AI features into its apps—including WhatsApp. Well, it looks like Meta is finally starting to infuse more AI features into WhatsApp, and it’s starting with a pretty useless one.

Obviously, opinions on AI in WhatsApp have been very mixed since the company announced its plans. Some of our own have even questioned the move, especially since WhatsApp is meant to be end-to-end encrypted. But that doesn’t seem to have stopped Meta one bit, as Zuckerberg continues to push his idea of useful AI features down the collective throats of anyone using Meta’s apps.

According to reports, the latest beta for WhatsApp has officially brought more AI features into the messaging app. If you were expecting something overly useful, though, you might be disappointed, as it seems the “AI-powered” feature will only let you generate images for your chats—and only for group chats at that.

It’s a bit of a weird limitation, to be sure, and will likely be extended to other chats and even profile pictures before it’s all said and done. And while we might not be the biggest fan of Meta baking AI features into WhatsApp, others like ChatGPT have even started using WhatsApp as a way to interact with AI chatbots—and it might even be the best way to interact with ChatGPT.

I, personally, don’t find much use in image generation for profile icons and group chat icons. So, seeing a feature like this make the jump to WhatsApp isn’t exactly a huge deal. As my colleague Chris pointed out in the piece I linked at the start of this article, the influx of AI into an end-to-end encrypted messaging app certainly comes with some worrying possibilities.

Meta has yet to say whether it plans to extend the use of image generation beyond just group icons or if it will stop there for now, with no plans to bring it to other icons like profile pictures or regular group chat icons. However, it is likely that it will eventually be available for all these options at some point down the line, as it doesn’t make much sense to limit it to only group chats.

Considering Meta is already working to give AI bots prime access to WhatsApp users, it’s probably only a matter of time before we see more useless AI features like this making an appearance in the messaging app. Maybe it’s finally time to jump ship to another encrypted messaging app.

iOS 18.4: New features, release date, AI updates, more

After waiting almost a month, Apple finally started beta testing iOS 18.4. This is one of the most important updates of the iOS 18 cycle so far. Here’s everything you need to know about iOS 18.4, including all of its features, the expected release date, and a major Apple Intelligence upgrade that Apple has planned for this release.

Unlike other software updates, Apple already teased that iOS 18.4 will be available in April. With the iPhone 16e announcement, the company said this version would launch early that month.

The first iOS 18.4 beta includes several new features. These are the most important:

New emoji: Apple finally added the seven emojis teased by the Unicode Consortium last year. Still, they’re not as fun as you’d expect.

Visual Intelligence: Apple added the Visual Intelligence feature to the Action Button while also adding support for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16e.

Control Center: The Control Center now displays an Apple Intelligence section with three options: Talk to Siri, Type to Siri, and Visual Intelligence.

Apple Vision Pro app: If you have an Apple Vision Pro, iOS 18.4 beta 2 adds the already-announced Vision Pro app.

App Store: The latest beta lets you pause an app download from the App Store.

iPhone support: iPhone 12 and iPhone 16e users can now join the iOS 18.4 beta testing.

AMD’s RX 9070 GPUs could go on sale March 6, the day after Nvidia’s RTX 5070 – and I wouldn’t fret about those 900W power supply rumors

  • AMD RX 9070 GPUs are rumored to hit shelves on March 6
  • Another rumor suggests 9070 XT could need a 900W power supply
  • That’s for a top-end overclocked version of the 9070 XT, though, and there are numerous caveats to consider here

AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 graphics cards will get a full launch event on February 28, which has been confirmed by Team Red, and now chatter on the rumor mill is indicating these GPUs will be available to buy on March 6.

That purported on-sale date comes courtesy of VideoCardz’s sources, an assertion also backed up by Chinese tech site Benchlife. Even though these two rumors align, we should still take this with a great deal of caution.

That said, AMD has told us that its RX 9070 models will go on sale in early March, which I take to mean the first week, and March 6 fits that picture. Still, we’ll need confirmation officially, and presumably that’ll come at the mentioned press event for RDNA 4 GPUs in late February.

At the same time, more speculation is floating around regarding the power consumption of the RX 9070 XT, suggesting that one third-party variant has a big ask in terms of your PC’s power supply.

Tom’s Hardware noticed a post on X from Tomasz Gawroński showing a purportedly leaked image of the PowerColor RX 9070 XT Red Devil, with the packaging apparently indicating that you’ll need a 900W PSU to have this graphics card in your gaming PC.

This has raised plenty of eyebrows, as it’s 100W more than the current recommendation for the RX 7900 XTX flagship, though even the poster admitted that they weren’t sure if the image is faked.

Interestingly, Frank Azor, who is head of consumer and gaming marketing at AMD, actually replied to Gawroński, observing that there will be other RX 9070 XT models that’ll “require lower minimum power supply wattages as will there be plenty with 8 pin power connectors for worry-free upgrading.”

Note that Azor didn’t confirm that the image was real, though the AMD executive didn’t call it a fake, either (but of course, he doesn’t work for PowerColor).

Analysis: Ready for the AMD vs Nvidia mid-range GPU shootout?

The launch date of March 6 for the RX 9070 models, if it turns out to be correct, is certainly an interesting choice – mainly because Nvidia only just announced March 5 is when the RTX 5070 arrives on shelves. So, as we theorized earlier this week, this is looking very much like a mid-range head-to-head between the RX 9070 and RTX 5070 in the first week of March.

As for the PSU requirement, I wouldn’t panic about the potential scenario of RX 9070 models somehow requiring vast reservoirs of power. Some of the beefiest models may, but we must remember, the Red Devil board mentioned in the leak is a top-end graphics card, and as Azor observed, other models will require less wattage. Indeed, the rumor is that the reference 9070 XT from AMD will ask for a 750W PSU, with the RX 9070 vanilla needing 650W, far more modest requirements (add seasoning with that still).

It’s also worth noting that 900W is an odd specification here, given that there aren’t any PSUs delivering that exact figure, as far as I’m aware. There are 850W models and then we jump to 1000W, so why PowerColor is (theoretically) placing the requirement just above 850W, in a non-existent PSU bracket (as it were), I’m not sure. This could perhaps be another suggestion that the image is faked.

That said, I don’t doubt that a heavily overclocked RX 9070 XT model will drink a lot more juice than a standard board. It clearly will, and so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the top dogs of the RDNA 4 graphics card world are considerably more demanding on the PC’s power supply. These GPUs will also cost a lot more than the entry-level 9070 XT products, too, and how competitive AMD’s graphics cards will be in pricing terms is the other key question we’re dying to have answered.

Galaxy S25 Edge specs leak teases an amazing ultra-thin phone

People in attendance at the Galaxy S25 Unpacked event last month might’ve been surprised by the product Samsung used to open the show: the new ultra-thin Galaxy S25 Edge. Then, during the hands-on experience, people crowded the Galaxy S25 Edge tables to take photos of the sleek new phone that Samsung teased briefly on stage.

Despite not being launched officially, the Galaxy S25 Edge was the big star of the show, and I’m not surprised. It can’t be just me who is interested in an ultra-thin flagship phone. I’m already looking forward to buying the iPhone 17 Air that Apple is expected to introduce this year. That’s the iPhone model that supposedly inspired Samsung to rush and unveil the Galaxy S25 Edge before Apple shows off its super-thin handset in September.

Samsung did not reveal Galaxy S25 Edge specs details at the show. While we speculated the handset would have high-end hardware like the rest of the Galaxy S25 series, we didn’t get actual confirmation at the event.

Now, someone posted on YouTube a very early hands-on video showing the Galaxy S25 Edge in action, complete with specs. The video was quickly pulled, but it confirmed leaks saying that the handset will rock high-end hardware despite being so thin.

According to SamMobile, which was among those quick enough to see the video before it was removed, the Galaxy S25 Edge is under 6mm thin. This seems to confirm rumors pointing to a profile of 5.84mm. Comparatively, the base Galaxy S25 model is 7.2mm thick.

The same YouTuber also provided the main hardware specs for the Galaxy S25 Edge units they tested. The phone features the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a 4,000 mAh battery.

The specs app the YouTuber used also provided purported camera details, suggesting the phone has three 12-megapixel cameras. However, the Galaxy S25 Edge only features two cameras on the back.

SamMobile explained that the app used to collect specs details usually messes up camera hardware, as the app looks at the default resolution of photos. The Galaxy S25 is rumored to feature a 200-megapixel main sensor rather than a 12-megapixel camera.

Camera specs aside, the rest of the hardware specs tell an impressive story. The Galaxy S25 Edge will apparently feature specs on par with the thicker Galaxy S25 phones.

All three Galaxy S25 models pack the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chip and pack at least 12GB of RAM. The list includes the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the best Galaxy S25 flavor you can buy.

The base Galaxy S25 model, which we’ve called maybe the most minor update in history, starts at 128GB of storage. The Galaxy S25 Plus model above starts at 256GB of storage.

More interesting is the Galaxy S25 Edge battery claim. At 4,000 mAh, the battery is as big as the Galaxy S25’s battery pack. However, given the phone’s nimble profile, the Galaxy S25 Edge battery has to be thinner and taller.

It’s unclear what compromises Samsung might have made to reduce the Galaxy S25 Edge’s thickness. The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip might be underclocked compared to the regular version. The phone’s thickness might have impacted the cooling system and other internal components. 

The battery might match the Galaxy S25’s size, but the phone should have a larger screen, which will inevitably consume more energy.

Even if the specs aren’t confirmed for the camera, we know the handset will feature two lenses instead of three.

That said, I’m cautiously optimistic about the Galaxy S25 Edge. The phone will have high-end specs in an ultra-thin body.

Samsung’s confidence in its ability to pull off a high-end ultra-thin Galaxy S phone makes me even more excited about the iPhone 17 Air. Remember that Samsung would have never made an ultra-thin Galaxy S phone without Apple first making a slim iPhone.

With March approaching, we’re getting closer to the Galaxy S25 Edge launch event. Samsung only teased the handset in January, but the ultra-thin phone should be launched in the second quarter.

Balancing act: Managing business needs alongside digital transformation and innovation

When building a startup, there is a real balancing act between managing expectations, educating on what’s possible, and identifying the true cost of innovation. CTOs are challenged not only to build functional technology platforms quickly, but to do so as cost effectively as possible.

Startups are often not profitable therefore don’t have a lot of cash to burn, meaning the CTO has to deliver technology solutions to solve their business goals on a limited budget.

Let’s look at a legacy industry like commercial insurance – it’s been undergoing a transformation in recent years. The industry is data and human heavy and is heavily regulated which is why it’s ripe for innovation. It is also playing catch-up to address the needs of many consumers who want a seamless user experience and businesses that want a modern experience – faster, streamlined, digitised, and so on – when dealing with insurance providers. This is particularly true of the on-demand economy.

Leveraging technology

The on-demand economy is characterised by the likes of Taskrabbit, Doordash, Uber, Deliveroo and Amazon Flex. But it’s the likes of hard working on-demand taxi and delivery drivers who are calling for flexible insurance that caters to their very specific needs which enables them to buy comprehensive coverage for when they’re driving, and to switch it off when they’re not.

However, many insurtechs have not adequately met these needs despite their ability to leverage technology more nimbly and effectively than traditional players. The business of insurance is complicated and innovation cannot be retrofitted with existing tech, which is why it’s vital to have a deep understanding of what the requirements are between the customer, the insurance partners and platforms like Uber and Amazon, for instance.

Transforming the on-demand insurance industry is a symbiotic relationship between the customer, the insurance provider and the platform. Although it can deliver real results for all, it also comes with its share of unique challenges.

Loss ratio – how much an insurance company spends on claims compared to the premiums it receives – is a key indicator of profitability. When insurtech startups focus too much on showy AI-driven gimmicks such as automatic claims payments within seconds, loss ratios suffer – and crucial insurance industry partners back away quickly. In the world of insurance, “innovation at all costs” simply doesn’t work.

But technology cannot simply operate as a cost centre. By working in partnership with the rest of the business, startup CTOs and their teams need to focus on building an ongoing technology foundation to drive innovation within legacy industry structures and processes, driving business growth as well as consistent results for customers and partners.

Tech as augmentor – not replacement

Many of the challenges CTOs face aren’t necessarily about technology, but the change of mindset required when implementing tech solutions. Until very recently, insurance was an industry dominated by traditional players, governed by outdated systems and processes. While this is changing, there are still areas where bridges must be built between the promise of what technology can deliver and a certain “this is how it’s always been done” mindset.

For example, we know that insurance, like many industries, is ripe for reinvention through smart uses of AI – as long as it is implemented in the most appropriate areas of the business, and used as an augmented assistant rather than a replacement for specialist expertise.

At Inshur, working in combination with a team from Google Cloud, we were able to build an AI assistant for our claims team and demonstrate to management its effectiveness in helping the team prioritise work as well as speeding up administrative tasks, while providing fast and effective customer service. We’re continuing to roll out this technology internationally, as well as add further features to augment the human adjusters and utilise their expertise while saving them time.

The assistant helps the team to quickly scan incoming documents, including email, physical letters, attachments or transcribed phone calls; infer the data, including who is the sender and the intention of the communication; identify important and useful information such as vehicle registration and claimant name; identify the priority and urgency of the claim; assign it to the right team; and summarise the data into a standard format for ease of use. By automatically accepting feedback, retraining, and learning from past actions, the assistant also helps guide handlers with proposed next steps, helping to train new claims handlers.

The AI-based tools we built to support our claims teams have enabled us to see patterns that are also a good fit for other departments within the business. So much so, that we see potential for the commoditisation of these approaches to a wider set of solutions that serves not just insurance, but any business.

Build or buy?

Another question a lot of startup CTOs are asked is whether to build or buy. Building tech solutions from scratch can carry significant risk, especially given the resource investment typically required. But when every business in a given market is using the same platforms – usually with significant tweaks and workarounds to fit their specific needs – then nobody can truly win the innovation race.

First-movers must always be willing to build when necessary, and to buy when prudent.

For example, we decided that we needed to invest in developing our own solutions to problems that could not be adequately solved by off-the-shelf products. One such product is our Pay-as-you-flex wallet for Amazon Flex. While traditional insurance has historically covered drivers at all times, including when they’re not driving, we knew that technology held the key to delivering a new insurance product that would enable delivery drivers to pay only for the cover they needed, when they needed it.

As the first-of-its-kind to enter the market, we knew that we’d need to build it from scratch.

It’s only since we built our proprietary platform to manage business-critical processes including policy administration, claims management and billing that similar products have entered the market. By building a platform that’s fully tailored to the specific needs of the market we serve, we’ve paved the way for other insurers to do the same for their customers and partners.

However, the startup CTO must also take the lead in conversations where buying makes most sense, securing buy-in from other senior stakeholders and identifying the most appropriate vendors to partner with. Often, particularly in a high-growth startup where cost and return on investment are key considerations, this will involve a detailed assessment of risk for all available scenarios.

In Inshur’s case, we’re working with Google Cloud to implement several of its AI products to drive efficiencies and ensure that customers are treated fairly – which is both a regulatory and moral imperative in the insurance industry.

We know that our customers drive for a living, which means they often need to call us via their hands-free mobile technology while driving in between journeys, rather than emailing or speaking to a text-based chatbot. 

When we identified that a significant proportion of the calls coming into our customer service team could be quickly and effectively answered by an AI-driven solution, we implemented a “smart virtual agent” to handle more straightforward queries, enabling the team to focus more on serving customers with specific or detailed questions.

Bridging the gap

Because of the crucial role technology such as AI will play in the coming years, CTOs will need to ensure they are consistently developing deep understanding and expertise, not just in the latest technology innovations but also how they can be implemented to drive business strategy and growth.

Crucially, this will include taking a leadership role in helping to educate stakeholders across the business on the best use cases for AI tools and other solutions, building understanding at every level around what the technology can and can’t help with, and putting clear structure and process around innovation.

This ability to bridge the gap between the business and technology is already becoming a crucial indicator of future success.

How Apple plans to fix the biggest design flaw of foldable phones

Apple will supposedly launch its first foldable iPhone in 2026, a phone we’ve been calling the iPhone Fold on account of its presumed design. The phone will fold like a book, which is the design Samsung first used for a foldable of its own, called the Galaxy Z Fold. Since then, many Chinese smartphone vendors released Fold-type phones.

When the iPhone Fold arrives, Apple might do something that Samsung and other Chinese companies haven’t really been able to do. Apple might release a foldable phone with an almost perfect foldable screen. That is, the foldable display might be creaseless, with Apple having reportedly spared no expense to fix this foldable phone design compromise. 

That’s according to a report from Korea that claims Apple will finalize its supply chain for the first-gen iPhone Fold this year, with component manufacturing to start by the end of the year.

Apple’s purported manufacturing plans for the iPhone Fold come from ETNews. The Korean outlet has learned that supplier selection is imminent, as Apple managed to improve the display crease significantly. By April, Apple should have chosen the suppliers that would manufacture key iPhone Fold components.

This development suggests that Apple will indeed release a foldable iPhone next year, matching claims from other recent rumors.

Samsung will be the sole manufacturer of that nearly creaseless display. Apple reportedly worked only with Samsung since last year. Apparently, it’s only Samsung Display that managed to deliver a screen that matches Apple’s needs.

That means Samsung might be the first company to significantly improve the foldable display crease. As a reminder, the Galaxy Z Fold SE has a significantly reduced crease. The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 should be based on the same design. It’s unclear, however, if Samsung is using the same innovations on its own phones.

Unsurprisingly, Apple had strict technical requirements from Samsung on how to fix the display crease.

“Apple has made the decision to eliminate creases completely, regardless of cost, in order to differentiate their foldable phone from existing models,” an insider told the outlet. “It is understood that they have successfully achieved this by using new materials that prevent creases from forming on the display.” It’s unclear what these materials are.

The report provides another interesting detail about the iPhone Fold design. Fixing the crease doesn’t mean fixing only the foldable screen. It also means looking at how the screen connects to the hinge below it and the ultra-thin glass at the top. 

Apparently, Apple has found a way to prevent creasing by looking at the problem holistically. The report also says Apple has encouraged cooperation between the various parts suppliers.

Samsung will provide the foldable OLED panel for the iPhone Fold. Amphenol, which manufactures hinges for MacBook Pros, has been tapped to make the iPhone Fold’s hinge.

Apple will reportedly use Corning cover screens, likely for the external display. The foldable screen will get ultra-thin glass covers, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold models. Samsung might provide UTG tech, though Apple is reportedly working with other components.

A foldable display with no crease will surely offer Apple an advantage over rivals next year. That’s assuming Samsung and others won’t come up with almost creaseless foldable phone screens themselves. It’s not just the Galaxy Z Fold SE that might feature a smaller crease. The recently launched Oppo Find N5 also supposedly features a smaller crease.

The crease might not be the only thing that sets the iPhone Fold apart. Recent reports from China have revealed the purported screen sizes for the foldable iPhone. They suggest the phone will be much shorter than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. When opened, this phone would look a lot like an iPad mini.

Photoshop now has an official free iPhone app

Adobe is bringing the Photoshop app to the iPhone along with key features such as the new Firefly AI suite that has everyone buzzing. According to a press release, Photoshop for iPhone brings free and premium offerings with a mobile-friendly design for artists and designers on the go.

Photoshop for iPhone has tons of tools that will be familiar to Photoshop users, plus plenty of Firefly-powered generative AI tools. It also supports just about every file type that you would work with in the desktop Photoshop app.

Google’s new AI solves superbug problems in two days

Superbugs are what we routinely call bacteria that grow resistant to antibiotics. The name isn’t exaggerated, as these acquired defenses allow the superbugs to survive and potentially provoke more havoc. 

Scientists like Professor José R Penadés’s team at Imperial College London have been trying to figure out how superbugs get their problems in the hope of a solution for years, working on a theory they did not share with anyone until the arrival of a new piece of AI.

Google’s newly released co-scientist AI (based on Gemini 2.0) needed only 48 hours to reach the same conclusion as the scientists after a decade of research. The AI also came up with additional reasons why a bug might get superpowers, including a new concept scientists are now studying.

“I was shopping with somebody, I said, ‘please leave me alone for an hour, I need to digest this thing,’” he said. Penadés emailed Google to inquire whether Google had access to his data and whether the AI had seen his team’s work to reach that conclusion so fast.

That would be the first thing that would cross anyone’s mind when seeing AI guess exactly the premise you were working on. But Google denied having access to the researc. The co-scientist AI came up with the answer on its own.

“It’s not just that the top hypothesis they provide was the right one,” the researcher said. “It’s that they provide another four, and all of them made sense. And for one of them, we never thought about it, and we’re now working on that.”

It’s unclear what the AI suggested that the researchers didn’t figure out on their own, but the experience shows how AI can help with specific tasks, including research. While the AI confirmed researchers’ findings, the speed of such an advanced computer program could save them years of research. They could spend the time working on solutions for the problems they’re studying. Conversely, that’s where AI could also help.

So, what was Google’s co-scientist AI doing that was so brilliant? The program proposed that bacteria that become superbugs can form a tail from different viruses, which lets them continue spreading across species.

The researchers have been working on this assumption for a decade. However, Penadés’s team did not share their ongoing work with anyone outside the organization and did not publish any findings.

AI will not always find the right solution for your needs, and it will continue to imagine things that are not real. But fine-tuned AI like Google’s co-scientist might become a tool other researchers use to advance their work quickly.

Penadés told the BBC that he understands the worries about AI taking over jobs, but what he saw with Google’s AI doesn’t fall into the same category. “When you think about it it’s more that you have an extremely powerful tool,” he said.

“I feel this will change science, definitely,” Penadés added.
“I’m in front of something that is spectacular, and I’m very happy to be part of that. It’s like you have the opportunity to be playing a big match – I feel like I’m finally playing a Champions League match with this thing.”

His team also thinks the new Google AI will be useful in the future. It’ll be interesting to see whether the researchers can actually find ways to kill the superbugs with existing or new antibiotics now that they can rely on AI to help.

Where to buy Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti: I’m expecting stock here first

To absolutely nobody’s surprise, and as was the case for the RTX 5080 and 5090 before it, nearly all stock for the RTX 5070 Ti has been scooped up and accounted for on the first day.

While you probably won’t have much luck getting a standalone GPU until retailers restock (stay tuned!), you do still have some options for prebuilt PCs and gaming laptops from retailers like Newegg and B&H Photo. These options aren’t exactly budget-friendly, but they do offer a chance at the latest hardware in a professional, pre-planned and fully compatible build, oftentimes with a warranty as an added layer of protection.

One key question some shoppers may be asking is this: should I get an RTX 5070 Ti, or just wait for the regular 5070?

For some PC gamers, this might be an answer as simple as ‘do I have an extra two hundred bucks’, but for those who could spring for the 5070 To but are uncertain, it’s a much harder decision. Personally, I want to say that the 4070 Ti Super-beating performance makes it a sure bet, but we’re still a few weeks away from the 5070 launch on March 5, so it’s too soon to say – with a fairly significant price difference, I’d say that unless the Ti model outperforms the regular 5070 by a margin of at least 20% before upscaling tech is applied, the cheaper card may in fact be the better option when it comes to value for money.

Access to upscaling and frame-gen tools is clearly going to become the Next Big Thing in gaming, with even home consoles starting to implement resolution upscaling (I do still think PSSR is a terrible name, though).

With that in mind, the RTX 5070 Ti – and the upcoming RTX 5070 – make a lot of sense for gamers looking to upgrade from an older GPU. If you’re still rocking a 2000 card or even something from the GTX generations, these midrange Blackwell cards will be a worthy upgrade purely for DLSS 4, let alone the raw performance improvements.

Honing in on 4K gaming, the RTX 5070 Ti puts up some impressive numbers at its MSRP of $749. That said, as we discuss in our review, without a Founders Edition 5070 Ti to serve as a baseline, that price is more of a suggestion than a steadfast rule for partner cards.

Don’t get me wrong, mind you: DLSS 4 with Nvidia’s newly boosted frame-gen tech is seriously impressive. I recently saw it in action in Cyberpunk 2077, and having used the first-gen iteration of the software, the difference is truly night and day.

It’s still not perfect, but visual tearing, blurring, and artifacting while upscaled to 4K with frame-gen turned on is significantly reduced even against DLSS 3 on a 4000-series GPU, to the point where it’s almost completely unnoticeable even when I’m actively looking for it. I spotted the occasional tiny bit of blurring on the HUD while driving and shooting at high speeds, but that was literally it – Nvidia’s framerate-boosting features have come a long way since the comparatively iffy original DLSS.

Although its pricing and performance (the latter of which places it almost on par with the more expensive RTX 5080) could make the RTX 5070 Ti the de facto best pick of Nvidia’s current crop of GPUs, finding one at retail price could prove difficult – and if it does, I’d feel compelled to say you should sit and wait.

That goes double for anyone who already has an RTX 4000 card; frankly, I’ll be sticking with my RTX 4080 for a while, Multi Frame Generation be damned.

While this might seem an expensive way of doing things, it can be worth it if you were thinking of upgrading several parts of your Pc at once. You could also sell your old PC if you no longer need it, and that could make the initial outlay more affordable.

This could be done by selling fake cards, or (in a process known as ‘scalping’) buying real 5070 Tis and then selling them on for hugely inflated prices.

We’ll only recommend trusted retailers that we know won’t rip you off, and we’ll only link to 5070 Ti models that are sensibly priced. With the RTX 5090 launch, I found several retailers selling the GPU for around $4,000 – a huge mark up. No matter how desperate you are to get a new 5070 Ti, you really don’t want to pay obscene amounts just to get one. It’s much better to wait until more stock arrives – trust me.

So, why do we think the RTX 5070 Ti will sell out fast? Well, for a start, as I mentioned earlier, the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 sold out incredibly quickly when they went on sale a few weeks ago, proving that there’s a huge demand for Nvidia’s latest GPUs.

Those two cards are high-end and very expensive GPUs, which makes the fact they sold out so fast even more impressive.

However, this doesn’t bode well for RTX 5070 Ti stock availability. For a start, everyone who tried and failed to get a 5090 or 5080 will likely try to get a 5070 Ti, as reviews suggest it’s an excellent card.

On top of that, the 5070 Ti has a much more affordable price tag, which should mean it’ll be more popular than the premium GPU, so we could see even more people try to snag one.

This is because, like the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 GPUs that launched a few weeks ago, I expect the RTX 5070 Ti to sell out fast, so you’ll want to make sure you’re as prepared as usual.
